EXAFS Study of Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1986
The local structural environments of Y 3+ and Zr 4+ in 18 wt% Y 2 O 3 ‐stabilized zirconia were studied using extended X‐ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy over the ...

Thermal Expansion of Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1964
The thermal expansion of yttria-stabilized zirconia was measured in air and in a high-oxygen atmosphere. Room temperature-to-1000 deg C expansion measurements were made in an automatic recording dilatometer. Measurements above 1000 deg C were made in an oxide induction furnace and the change in length of the specimen was measured with telemicroscopes ...

Ultrasonic attenuation in yttria-stabilized zirconia

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 1999
Abstract The acoustic attenuation at 10 MHz in yttria-stabilized zirconia (ZrO2(Y)) was measured at temperatures between 300 and 600 K. The attenuation curve showed a relaxation peak, from which the activation energy was estimated to be 0.7±0.07 eV , in good agreement with the value obtained from dielectric constant of 0.66±0.07 eV ...

Layered structures of yttria-stabilized zirconia sandwiched between platinum/ yttria-stabilized zirconia composites

Journal of Applied Physics, 2001
Layered structures of cubic yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) sandwiched between two layers of platinum/YSZ composites with the platinum concentration varying between 20 and 55 vol % were prepared. Large double-layer capacitances were obtained due to the presence of large three-dimensional electrode surface areas in the composite layers. The layers were

Electrostatic dispersion of yttria-stabilized zirconia

Powder Technology, 1987
Abstract These results merely indicate that the isoelectric point for this powder is substantially different than that commonly accepted for ‘stabilized zirconia’. It is recommended that this difference be taken into account in designing process systems for the material.

A Cluster Modelling Study of Conductivity of Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia

MRS Proceedings, 1992
AbstractOn the basis of a previously described structural model for the Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia, the conductivity for this material can be calculated. A fixed number of clusters is generated in a structure of 70×28 polyhedra to simulate different Y contents in the structure.

Vanadia reactions with yttria stabilized zirconia

Journal of Applied Physics, 1988
The reaction of vanadia films with yttria stabilized single-crystal cubic and polycrystalline cubic-tetragonal zirconias was studied using Rutherford backscattering (RBS) and x-ray diffraction, with some selected depth profiling studies. Vandium on zirconia readily oxidizes at 500 °C to form vanadia films.

Phase stability of scandia–yttria-stabilized zirconia TBCs

Surface and Coatings Technology, 1998
Abstract The evolution in phase composition resulting from 1400°C ageing of ZrO 2 samples stabilized by ∼4–7 mol.% each of Y 2 O 3 (YSZ), Sc 2 O 3 (ScSZ), or a mixture of Sc 2 O 3 –Y 2 O 3 (SYSZ) was studied by synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction (SR XRD) using whole powder pattern fitting (WPPF), a recently proposed Rietveld-based method for

Nanoindentation examination of yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) crystal

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2007
Abstract The paper clarifies the specific mechanical properties of single crystal YSZ through applying the nanoindentation examination and the finite element analysis with theoretical ultrasonic measurements. The obtained results demonstrate that the lack of precise determination of the Poisson's ratio results in the significant discrepancy between ...

Spectroscopic investigation of the electronic structure of yttria-stabilized zirconia

Physical Review Materials, 2018
The electronic structure and optical properties of yttria-stabilized zirconia are investigated as a function of the yttria content using multiple experimental and theoretical methods, including electron energy-loss spectroscopy, Kramers-Kronig analysis to obtain the optical parameters, photoelectron spectroscopy, and density functional theory.
