Synthesis of yttria nanopowders for transparent yttria ceramics
Optical Materials, 2006Abstract This paper describes a precipitation process for synthesizing nanocrystalline yttria powder and sintering transparent yttria ceramics. Hydroxide precursor of Y 2 O 3 with an approximate composition of Y 2 (OH) 5 NO 3 · H 2 O was synthesized by using ammonia water as precipitant and yttrium nitrate as the starting salt.

Composite ceramics thermal barrier coatings of yttria stabilized zirconia for aero-engines
, 2019Composite ceramics thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are widely used in the aero-engines field due to their excellent thermal insulation, which improves the service life and durability of the inherent hot components. The most typical, successful and widely

Mechanical Strength of Hemispheric Domes of Yttria and Lanthana‐Doped Yttria
Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1992The strength of hemispheric ceramic domes was measured in a biaxial flexure test using disklike circular pieces removed with a core drill. Yttria and lanthana‐doped yttria dome cores exhibit approximately 60% of the strength predicted from similarly fabricated flat disks.

Hydrothermal Synthesis of Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia Nanocrystals with Controlled Yttria Content
Inorganic Chemistry, 2015In this study, we demonstrate for the first time the hydrothermal synthesis of yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) nanocrystals with controlled yttria content (x = 3-12 mol %; xYSZ) with negligible aggregation from aqueous solution. The nanocrystals were grown via the hydrothermal treatment of basic Zr(IV) and Y(III) carbonate complex aqueous solutions in

Yttria concentration dependence of tensile strength in yttria-stabilized zirconia
Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2004Abstract Tensile and bending tests were performed for ZrO2 polycrystals stabilized with 2.6–10 mol % Y2O3. There is no significant difference in the isothermal Young’s modulus of all the compositions. Both the tensile and bending strengths of PSZ are markedly higher than those of FSZ.

In the present work, monoclinic zirconia was mechanically alloyed with yttria (6–14 mol%) via ball milling at the different ball-to-powder mass ratios (BPMRs) for 3–24 h, and then, the mixed powders were sintered at 1100 °C and 1500 °C.

Nanograined highly transparent yttria ceramics
Optics Letters, 2009The field of transparent ceramics is enjoying a renaissance, as refractory oxides are being developed as alternatives to single crystals in high-performance laser systems. However, a significant challenge remains regarding the reduction of the grain size to sufficiently subwavelength dimensions in order to achieve the same degree of optical ...
