The Yttria‐Hafnia System

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1975
Phase equilibria in the yttria‐hafnia system were investigated by high‐temperature and room‐temperature X‐ray diffraction. The HfO 2 transformation, solid solution limits, and liquidus temperatures are given. A tentative phase diagram is proposed.

Polymeric Precursors for Yttria

MRS Proceedings, 1994
ABSTRACTPolymers that can be easily processed into fibers, films, or bodies are excellent precursors for ceramics with useful morphologies. The ideal preceramic polymer not only has proper physical properties (e.g. solubility or fusibility) for processibility but also decomposes at

Combustion synthesis of yttria

Journal of Materials Chemistry, 1995
Fine-particle, sinter-active yttria has been prepared by combustion of a redox compound, Y(N2H3COO)3·3H2O and mixtures of Y(N2H3COO)3·3H2O–NH4NO3 or NH4ClO4 as well as yttrium nitrate and hydrazine-based fuels. The fineparticle nature of the combustion-derived yttria has been investigated using powder density, particle size and BET surface area ...

The Zirconia-Yttria System

Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 1951
The phase relationships in the zirconia‐yttria system have been established up to 2000°C. The addition of 0 to 5 mole per cent yttria lowers the temperature at which zirconia transforms from the tetragonal to the monoclinic form. From 7 to 55 mole per cent yttria is soluble in zirconia and this solid solution is cubic (stabilized zirconia). A two‐phase

Luminescence of pure yttria

Optics and Spectroscopy, 2008
Pulsed cathodoluminescence of samples of nominally pure yttria—commercially available powder, nanopowder prepared from it, and ceramics sintered from this nanopowder—is studied in the range 380–850 nm. The luminescence spectra at room temperature exhibit broad bands at λ ≈ 437 and 487 nm and series of narrow bands that are located in the blue (435–510 ...

Effect of Ta2O5 addition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of TiO2-added yttria-stabilized zirconia-toughened alumina (ZTA) composites

Ceramics International, 2018
In this study, the effect of Ta2O5 addition on the phase evolution and mechanical properties of sintered (1600 °C, 4 h) TiO2-added yttria-stabilized zirconia-toughened alumina (ZTA) ceramic composites was investigated.

Mechanical evaluation of yttria

SPIE Proceedings, 1990
A method is described to make multiple measurements of the strength of a single hemispherical ceramic dome with a ring-on-ring flexure test of disklike sections removed from the dome by a core drill. Preliminary results show that dome cores exhibit lower strength than flat disks, because the domes have larger critical surface flaws than those ...

Electronic and optical properties of yttria

Physical Review Letters, 1990
The electronic structure and bonding in the ${\mathrm{Y}}_{2}$${\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ crystal is completely elucidated by first-principles self-consistent band-structure and optical calculations. Results agree well with experiments. The unique type of bonding in ${\mathrm{Y}}_{2}$${\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ is emphasized; it does not support the fully ionic picture ...

High Yttria-Zirconia and Yttria Ceramics for Petrochemical Reverse-Flow Reactor Applications

International Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology, 2014
Reverse-flow reactors achieve the desired hydropyrolysis reaction of natural gas and other hydrocarbon feeds at very high temperatures of up to 2000°C, which enables the production of many high-value chemicals. To identify refractory ceramic materials suitable for constructing key components of the reactor, the full range of solid solutions between ...
