Development of species distribution models helps identify source country anomalies in timber supply chains

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract For many timber species, a lack of consistent, comprehensive global distribution data makes validating supply source (country of harvest) difficult. To supplement these data, we developed species distribution models (SDMs) for the American mahogany species (genus Swietenia) to demonstrate how SDMs can assist in the analysis of supply sources ...

Coast effect in magnetotelluric soundings over the Yucatán peninsula, Mexico [PDF]

open access: yesGeofísica Internacional, 2001
Three-dimensional synthetic modeling of magnetotelluric sounding data of the Yucatán peninsula suggests that the coast effect on the magnetotelluric measurements carried out over the Chicxulub impact region is negligible.

Phylogeny of subtribe Gonolobinae (Apocynaceae‐Asclepiadoideae) based on molecular and morphological data with a revised generic classification

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract The presently most densely sampled molecular phylogeny of the widespread New World subtribe Gonolobinae is presented, including about 35% of the ca. 520 species. Sampling focused on an even representation of the three main areas of total Gonolobinae distribution, South America, Central/North America, and the West Indian Islands, and the ...

Decadal changes in environmental suitability for the margay (Leopardus wiedii) under anthropogenic pressure in the Yucatán Peninsula

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 4, April 2026.
This study evaluates how human activities impact margay (Leopardus wiedii) distribution in the Yucatán Peninsula, revealing habitat loss due to agriculture but also recolonization opportunities in abandoned lands. Species distribution models show range contraction (2010–2023), yet margays demonstrate resilience near disturbed habitats.
