Dog attacks on wild desert tortoises: A risk model

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 4, May 2026.
Domestic dogs attack and severely injure wild desert tortoises at the urban and ex‐urban interface with deserts. Severe trauma to tortoises increased 4 times to shell and limbs and 16.5 times to the gular horn over the decades between the 1970s and 2000s. Tortoises were at exponential risk of severe trauma when living within 12 km of settlements, towns,

Reflections for Biodiversity Researchers Engaging With Policy‐Science Interfaces

open access: yesThe Bulletin of the Ecological Society of America, Volume 107, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Researchers who wish to engage in policy processes to help address the biodiversity crisis are often hindered by fear of the potential drawbacks to doing so. Deciding who decides: Trust and support for elected official, expert, and citizen decision‐making regarding nuclear waste management

open access: yesReview of Policy Research, Volume 43, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Many policy issues, such as nuclear waste management, are complex and require expertise to address. In many such policy areas, decisions are made by elected officials with input largely from experts and not the public or other stakeholders. However, such top‐down approaches can create mistrust and political opposition.

Disentangling complex relationships and disjunctions in western Camassia: Integrating multiple criteria to resolve taxonomic boundaries

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 112, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Premise Understanding genetic and morphological variability helps efforts to sustain landscapes and develop effective species concepts for resolving difficult groups. To unravel puzzling relationships and range disjunctions, we applied morphometrics, phenology, phylogenetics and population genetics in Camassia species with cultural, ecological,

Synergistic effect of ZIF‐8 nanomaterial on 2,4‐D efficacy by regulating auxin synthesis pathway in barnyard grass [Echinochloa crus‐galli (L.) P. Beauv.]

open access: yesNew Plant Protection, Volume 2, Issue 4, December 2025.
ZIF‐8 exhibited a synergistic effect on 2,4‐D efficacy against barnyard grass by regulation of auxin synthesis pathway, as well as the synergistic regulation of metabolic pathways involving 2,4‐D and ZIF‐8. Furthermore, the use of ZIF‐8 as a carrier could improve the safety of 2,4‐D for wheat.
