Endemic insects from the Yungas of Argentina [PDF]

open access: yesZootaxa, 2007
Until now, biogeographic unit of the Yungas was almost exclusively characterized by its floristic taxa. Presence of other taxonomical groups, in this case arthropods, were poorly recorded besides implicit mention of arthropods to characterizeYungas as a natural region.

Changes in Species Richness and Composition of Tiger Moths (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae) among Three Neotropical Ecoregions. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Paraná, Yungas and Chaco Serrano ecoregions are among the most species-rich terrestrial habitats at higher latitude. However, the information for tiger moths, one of the most speciose groups of moths, is unknown in these ecoregions.

Hidden Microbiota Inhabiting in Pollen Reserves of Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) From Amazonas Region Revealed by DNA Metabarcoding

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 4, August 2026.
DNA metabarcoding of honey bee pollen reserves from Amazonas region reveals that microbial communities are strongly shaped by their ecosystem. Despite high taxonomic turnover across different habitats, these microbiomes maintain stable, essential functions for pollinator health, though they remain highly vulnerable to habitat homogenization.

Conservation effectiveness of seven biosphere reserves in the Western Amazon

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 7, July 2026.
As deforestation continues to threaten the Amazon, assessing the effectiveness of area‐based conservation strategies is critical for achieving global biodiversity targets. Using matching methods, we evaluated deforestation avoidance in seven biosphere reserves in the Western Amazon and found that most have reduced forest loss, particularly in buffer ...

High‐speed infrared video analysis of sonations in the scissor‐tailed nightjar Hydropsalis torquata

open access: yesJournal of Avian Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 3, May 2026.
Many species of nightjar reportedly produce short, impulsive wing sounds during courtship, but the kinematics and physical mechanisms of sound production remain speculative. Using synchronized infrared high‐speed video and audio recordings we describe the mechanism of sound production of a sonation in the nocturnal family Caprimulgidae; the wing ...
