Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

A collaborative planning model of IES containing EHs and multi-energy grids under the premise of demand response as well as wind power uncertainty

open access: yesDiscover Sustainability
The proliferation of renewable energy resources and the incorporation of various types of energy bring opportunities as well as new challenges to the planning and operations within integrated energy systems (IESs).

The role of spreadsheets in an investigation of Fibonacci Numbers

open access: yesSpreadsheets in Education, 2014
We introduce a function Z(k) which measures the number of distinct ways in which a number can be expressed as the sum of Fibonacci numbers. Using a binary table and other devices, we explore the values that Z(k) can take and reveal a surprising ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Strategic Planning Model in Higher Education using Neutrosophic Z Numbers [PDF]

open access: yesNeutrosophic Sets and Systems
Strategic planning in higher education faces complex challenges due to the imprecise nature of decision-making criteria, the diversity of stakeholders involved, and the changing dynamics of academic environments.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

The field of complex numbers

open access: yes, 2008
[14], [5], [10], and [9] provide the notation and terminology for this paper. The following propositions are true: 1. PRELIMINARIES (1) For every element z of C holds ||z| | = |z|. (2) For all real numbers x1, y1, x2, y2 holds (x1 + y1i) ·(x2 + y2i) = (
