Volumes of spheres and special values of zeta functions of $\mathbb{Z}$ and $\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}$

open access: yesActa Arithmetica, 2023
The volume of the unit sphere in every dimension is given a new interpretation as a product of special values of the zeta function of $\mathbb{Z}$, akin to volume formulas of Minkowski and Siegel in the theory of arithmetic groups. A product formula is found for this zeta function that specializes to Catalan numbers.

Constraints on Reionization and Source Properties from the Absorption Spectra of z > 6.2 Quasars

open access: yes, 2007
We make use of hydrodynamical simulations of the intergalactic medium (IGM) to create model quasar absorption spectra. We compare these model spectra with the observed Keck spectra of three z > 6.2 quasars with full GunnPeterson troughs: SDSS J1148+5251 (
