Usos y conocimiento tradicional de las gimnospermas en el noreste de Oaxaca, México

open access: yesActa Botanica Mexicana, 2019

Integrative taxonomy of the Ceratozamia mexicana Brongn. (Zamiaceae) species complex from a phylogeographic perspective

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, Volume 40, Issue 6, Page 530-546, November 2025.
Recent research has ignited a renewed interest in Ceratozamia cycads, unveiling their remarkable diversity. While previous studies primarily focused on morphology, this investigation employs a multidisciplinary approach, integrating phylogenetics, morphology, and ecological niches. Our methods identify seven distinct lineages as separate species.

G-fibers and Florin ring-like structures in Dioon (Zamiaceae)

open access: yesBotan‪ical Sciences, 2016
Cuticle information and epidermal characters have great potential in systematic studies.  However, micromorphology and anatomical studies on cycads are relatively scarce in comparison to similar studies on other gymnosperms.

A first characterization of the leaflet endophytic prokaryotic community in Dioon cycads

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, Volume 40, Issue 6, Page 547-555, November 2025.
This study presents the first characterization of leaflet endophytic prokaryotic communities in Mexican cycads of the genus Dioon. Using 16S rRNA metabarcoding, we describe the composition and diversity of foliar bacterial communities across species and biogeographic regions, highlighting patterns potentially shaped by environmental conditions.

Spatial distribution pattern of the endangered endemic cycad Ceratozamia fuscoviridis (Zamiaceae) in central Mexico

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, Volume 40, Issue 6, Page 572-583, November 2025.
Spatial distribution pattern were studied for Ceratozamia fuscoviridis, an endangered species in Mexico, based on Ripley's K t and K 12 analysis. Clumped spatial distribution patters was found in individuals of all populations, suggesting low interaction with predators/dispersers and/or evidence of suitable microsites for cycads.

Extrapolating demography with climate, proximity and phylogeny: approach with caution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Plant population responses are key to understanding the effects of threats such as climate change and invasions. However, we lack demographic data for most species, and the data we have are often geographically aggregated.

The diversity of the pollen tube pathway in plants: toward an increasing control by the sporophyte [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
12 Pags.- 1 Fig.Plants, unlike animals, alternate multicellular diploid, and haploid generations in their life cycle. While this is widespread all along the plant kingdom, the size and autonomy of the diploid sporophyte and the haploid gametophyte ...

Progress in the study of dioecy in Mexican cycad species and its implications for conservation

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, Volume 40, Issue 6, Page 556-571, November 2025.
Cycads are endangered dioecious plants of great ornamental value that have a long period of sexual maturity. Therefore, it is crucial to have methods for early sex determination that can help to develop effective strategies for their conservation. Abstract Dioecy is a system of sexual reproduction in plants, characterized by the spatial separation of ...
