The one-loop elastic coefficients for the Helfrich membrane in higher dimensions [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 38 (2005) 1225-1233, 2004
Using a covariant geometric approach we obtain the effective bending couplings for a 2-dimensional rigid membrane embedded into a $(2+D)$-dimensional Euclidean space. The Hamiltonian for the membrane has three terms: The first one is quadratic in its mean extrinsic curvature. The second one is proportional to its Gaussian curvature, and the last one is

Socio‐Economic Evolution and Tobacco Products Sales in Spain: A Long‐Term Analysis of the Tobacco Kuznets Curve

open access: yesHealth Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article examines the relationship between economic development and tobacco consumption in Spain, using the Kuznets Curve framework. Drawing on panel data from Spanish provinces (2002–2021), the findings confirm that GDP has a non‐linear effect on cigarette consumption.

Countable dense homogeneity in powers of zero-dimensional definable spaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We show that, for a coanalytic subspace $X$ of $2^\omega$, the countable dense homogeneity of $X^\omega$ is equivalent to $X$ being Polish. This strengthens a result of Hru\v{s}\'ak and Zamora Avil\'es.

The Impact of Say‐On‐Pay on Firm Efficiency in Anglo‐Saxon Economies—Do CEO Personal Traits and CG Mechanisms Matter?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Finance &Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this study, we explore how the personal traits of CEOs and corporate governance mechanisms moderate the link between say‐on‐pay (SOP) votes and various aspects of firm efficiency. Our sample consists of 1931 firms listed in four Anglo‐Saxon economies (i.e., USA, UK, Canada and Australia) during a period of notable regulatory changes.

The Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE), one of the programs in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III (SDSS-III), has now completed its systematic, homogeneous spectroscopic survey sampling all major populations of the Milky Way ...

Manifest Supersymmetry in Non-Commutative Geometry [PDF]

open access: yesJHEP0002:022,2000, 1999
We consider the open superstring ending on a D-brane in the presence of a constant NS-NS B field, using the Green-Schwarz formalism. Quantizing in the light-cone gauge, we find that the anti-commutation relations for the fermionic variables of superspace remain unmodified. We also derive the unbroken supersymmetry algebra living on the D-brane.

Corticosterone and Mitochondrial Efficiency Are Associated With Changes in DNA Oxidative Damage During an Acute Stress Response in Leach's Storm‐Petrels (Hydrobates leucorhous)

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ability of organisms to effectively respond to challenges is critical for survival. We investigated how an acute stressor affected corticosterone, mitochondrial function, and DNA oxidative damage in a wild population of Leach's storm‐petrels (Hydrobates leucorhous).

Bibliographic review of the project "in my house" of the Junta de Castilla y León

open access: yesINFAD, 2019
Introduction: the increase in life expectancy and the number of people over 65 years of age implies a change in sociodemographic patterns, which is why health services are evolving, the “In my house” project being a great example.

Products and countable dense homogeneity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Building on work of Baldwin and Beaudoin, assuming Martin's Axiom, we construct a zero-dimensional separable metrizable space $X$ such that $X$ is countable dense homogeneous while $X^2$ is not. It follows from results of Hru\v{s}\'ak and Zamora Avil\'es

Chiral Symmetry Breaking in the AdS/CFT Correspondence [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We study the SU(3)-invariant relevant deformation of D=4 N=4 SU(N) gauge theory at large N using the AdS/CFT correspondence. At low energies, we obtain a nonsupersymmetric gauge theory with three left-handed quarks in the adjoint of SU(N).
