Abstract Aims Atrial fibrillation (AF) is becoming increasingly common. Traditional cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) do not explain all AF cases. Blood‐based biomarkers reflecting cardiac injury such as high‐sensitivity troponin I (hsTnI) may help close this gap.
