In this study maize chloroplastic malate dehydrogenase7 (ZmMDH7), is identified as a Rhizoctonia solani resistance gene in maize. ZmMDH7 is regulated by transcription factor ZmWRKY44 via pathogens challenge to elevate mitochondrial ROS and SA signaling pathway.

Wheat production is under threat from multiple diseases. This study clones the wheat autoimmunity gene WAI‐B2 from an EMS‐induced mutant that encodes a distinct transmembrane protein conferring resistance to wheat rusts and powdery mildew ‐ two major diseases affecting wheat crops.

Hypoglycemic Effect of Zea Styles.
SummaryMacerated decoction extracts of Zea styles exert consistent hypoglycemic effects in fasting rabbits provided they are administered parenterally. Repeated daily subcutaneous administration of the extract to non-fasting rabbits produces even fatal hypoglycemia.

Battle in the New World: Helicoverpa armigera versus Helicoverpa zea (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)
The corn earworm Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) and the old world bollworm Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) are allopatric species and occur in important agricultural crops. In maize, both species tend to infest the ear.

Autopolyploidization‐Induced Chromatin Remodeling Regulates Leaf Size Variation in Brassica rapa
This study demonstrates that monoploid, diploid, and autotetraploid Brassica rapa lines derived from the same genome exhibit distinct leaf morphology. Ploidy changes remodel chromatin accessibility and histone modifications to regulate gene expression, while key transcription factors BrGRF13 and BrARF11 control leaf size and polarity, driving ...

Evaluation of maize and hemp cultivars as bioenergy crop [PDF]
We are cultivating annual and perennial crops as monoculture and as mixed culture to investigate plant biomass use for production of renewable energy sources in northern latitudes. We have grown different hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) and bioenergy maize (

Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase Is Involved in the Decarboxylation of Aspartate in the Bundle Sheath of Maize [PDF]
We recently showed that maize (Zea mays L.) leaves contain appreciable amounts of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK; R.P. Walker, R.M. Acheson, L.I. Técsi, R.C. Leegood [1997] Aust J Plant Physiol 24: 459–468).
