Reproductive performance of Zebu compared with Charolais × Zebu females in a humid tropical environment

Animal Science, 1976
SUMMARYComponents of reproductive efficiency of Zebu-type and Charolais × Zebu-type (1/2, 3/4 and 7/8) females were compared. Zebus had longer mean intervals from calving to first service (57·8 days) and from calving to conception (46·0 days). Least squares means for both traits were respectively 129·8 and 145·1 days.

Gross Anatomy of the Penis Development in Zebus*

Anatomia, Histologia, Embryologia: Journal of Veterinary Medicine Series C, 1980
In twenty-two Brazilian Nelore zebus the following measurments of the penis were made: full length, length of the free part and diameter. Penile length is highly correlated with age and body weight.

Rectum-testis Temperature Gradient in Zebus

Zentralblatt für Veterinärmedizin Reihe A, 2010
Summary The mean rectal-testicular temperature gradient of four Nelore zebus was 5.2 ± 0.8 °C. There was no difference in the rectal (38.8 ± 0.4 °C) and intratesticular (33.6 ± 1.0 °C) temperatures between animals lying in the sun and those in the shade.

Mother–Offspring Interactions in Zebu Cattle

Reproduction in Domestic Animals, 2008
ContentsThe knowledge of the interaction between mother and offspring might contribute to enhance the welfare of the offspring and to improve the reproductive efficiency of the cow. However, there is still little information available about such interaction in some cattle breeds.

Bos indicus (Zebu)

1968
The karyotype of Bos indicus is identical with that of Bos taurus except for the morphology of the Y chromosome. The Y chromosome of B. taurus is a small metacentric, but that of B. indicus is a small acrocentric. Autoradiographs of DNA synthesis during the late S phase invariably show a late replicating small acrocentric.

[Tumors of the ovaries in zebus].

Veterinarno-meditsinski nauki, 1983
In a total of 112 slaughtered sterile cows of the Zebu cattle, originating from the Camaguey region, Cuba, 25 tumors were found in 22 animals (in three of the cows the tumors were bilateral). Histologically, the tumors were differentiated as follows: 1 papillary adenoma, 6 papillary cystadenomas, 1 adenocarcinoma, 1 papillary adenocarcinoma, 8 ...

Genetic and Biological Aspects of Zebu Adaptability

Journal of Animal Science, 1980
The utility and documentation of traits and characteristics of Zebu, Bos indicus, cattle in beef production in the United States are discussed with reference to adaptation. Zebu cattle are uniquely suited to hot climates due to coat, hide, skin and hematological attributes.

Microsatellite loci/alleles of cuban and indian zebu in white-and-black cattle of the zebu type

Veterinariya, Zootekhniya i Biotekhnologiya
As part of selective microsatellite genotyping of the zeboid cattle herd at the “Snegiri” breeding center, Main Botanical Garden of Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow Region), a study was conducted to identify carriers of the Cuban and Indian zebu (Bos indicus) loci/alleles.
