Lymphosarcoma in Indian Zebu Cattle

Oncology, 1971
The incidence of bovine lymphosarcoma was studied in 79,492 male adult Indian cattle of 7 different breeds and crossbreeds from one abattoir in Bombay. One of 23,066 Malvi animals, a bullock, was detected with multicentric LS with symmetrically enlarged lymph nodes and spleen.

Preweaning Growth Rate and Weaning Traits of Angus, Zebu and Zebu-Cross Cattle

Journal of Animal Science, 1982
A 4-yr study was conducted on the preweaning growth rate and weaning traits of 620 calves from: (1) Angus (A), Brahman (B), Brangus (BR) and Africander-Angus (AF) dams sired by A and B bulls; (2) BR dams mated to BR sires and (3) AF dams mated to AF sires. Heifers were placed in the breeding pastures as 2-yr-olds and exposed to bulls for 75 d.

Rectum-testis Temperature Gradient in Zebus

Zentralblatt für Veterinärmedizin Reihe A, 2010
Summary The mean rectal-testicular temperature gradient of four Nelore zebus was 5.2 ± 0.8 °C. There was no difference in the rectal (38.8 ± 0.4 °C) and intratesticular (33.6 ± 1.0 °C) temperatures between animals lying in the sun and those in the shade.

Genome‐wide scan reveals divergent selection among taurine and zebu cattle populations from different regions

Animal Genetics, 2018
In this study, to identify genomic signatures of divergent selection, we genotyped 10 cattle breeds/populations (n = 275), representing eight Ethiopian cattle populations (n = 229) and two zebu populations (n = 46) adapted to tropical and sub-tropical ...

Bos indicus (Zebu)

1968
The karyotype of Bos indicus is identical with that of Bos taurus except for the morphology of the Y chromosome. The Y chromosome of B. taurus is a small metacentric, but that of B. indicus is a small acrocentric. Autoradiographs of DNA synthesis during the late S phase invariably show a late replicating small acrocentric.

Robertsonian translocation in a Zebu bull

Theriogenology, 1985
Karyotypes were prepared for ten Rahaji bulls using cultured peripheral blood lymphocytes. C-banded metaphases were prepared to identify the sex chromosomes and possible translocations. Out of the ten bulls, studied one bull had a 2n number of 59 chromosomes and carried a Robertsonian translocation.

Puberty in South American Bos indicus (Zebu) cattle

Animal Reproduction Science, 2004
Puberty in Zebu heifers follows a pattern characterized by a decrease in the steroid feedback mechanism and an increase in LH concentration, which result in the first ovulation followed by a short estrous cycle and the onset of normal cycles thereafter. These events are similar to those observed in Bos taurus cattle but occur at a later age.

Mother–Offspring Interactions in Zebu Cattle

Reproduction in Domestic Animals, 2008
ContentsThe knowledge of the interaction between mother and offspring might contribute to enhance the welfare of the offspring and to improve the reproductive efficiency of the cow. However, there is still little information available about such interaction in some cattle breeds.

A comparison of field tick infestation on N'Dama, Zebu and N'Dama×Zebu crossbred cattle

Veterinary Parasitology, 1993
Tick burdens, estimated from cumulative tick counts, were determined on N'Dama, Zebu and F1 N'Dama x Zebu crossbred cattle. N'Dama showed significantly fewer ticks than the Zebu and F1 cattle (P < 0.001). A previous trypanosomosis infection did not affect tick burdens on the three genotypes.
