Studies on the habits of zebu cattle. III. Water consumption of Zebu cattle
The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1955In continuation of a series of studies on the habits of Zebu cattle, records for the quantities of water consumed every hour by ten cattle during twenty periods of 24 hr. observations have been analysed.A large variation in day-to-day consumption was evident, but water was taken on an average during 8 hr.

SUMMARYComponents of reproductive efficiency of Zebu-type and Charolais × Zebu-type (1/2, 3/4 and 7/8) females were compared. Zebus had longer mean intervals from calving to first service (57·8 days) and from calving to conception (46·0 days). Least squares means for both traits were respectively 129·8 and 145·1 days.

Serum guanase levels of Indian Zebu (Hariana) cattle and its crosses with different exotic levels of temperate breeds of dairy cattle were estimated in 527 animals, and their associations with economic characters were determined. The overall mean value of serum guanase level was 13.46 +/- 0.45 IU/ml of serum.
