The Association Between Socio-Economic Characteristics and the Frequency of Wife Assault [PDF]

open access: yes
We estimate the impact of economic status on the frequency of domestic violence using several models and a large random sample. Tauchen, Witte and Long (1991) (TWL) find that both female and male income have a significant impact on the frequency of ...

Temperate forest heterogeneity decreases local and landscape‐scale spider diversity through habitat filtering despite increasing species turnover

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
In a large‐scale German forest experiment, habitat heterogeneity increased spider turnover but reduced local alpha diversity through habitat filtering. Together, these effects lowered landscape‐scale spider diversity. As such, the study shows whether environmental heterogeneity increases or decreases biodiversity depends on the balance between habitat ...

How Do M&A Rumours Influence Deal Completion? The Role of Board Gender Diversity and Language Differences

open access: yesBritish Journal of Management, EarlyView.
Abstract In this study, we apply the upper echelons theory (UET) lens to investigate how M&A rumours influence deal completion. Based on our findings, we propose a two‐stage channel that drives the rumour‐specific effect. In doing so, we provide theoretical arguments and empirical support for the relationship between M&A rumours and deal completions ...

Ant–aphid mutualism: the influence of Tapinoma ibericum (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) on Aphis gossypii (Hemiptera: Aphidae) control by commercial and spontaneous natural enemies

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
The mutualism between Tapinoma ibericum ants and Aphis gossypii disrupts the biological control exerted by Aphidius colemani in greenhouse peppers. Ant exclusion increased parasitism and the presence of most natural enemies, although Aphidoletes aphidimyza was more abundant with ants.
