Zero-Valent Iron Nanoparticles for Soil and Groundwater Remediation [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2020
Zero-valent iron has been reported as a successful remediation agent for environmental issues, being extensively used in soil and groundwater remediation. The use of zero-valent nanoparticles have been arisen as a highly effective method due to the high specific surface area of zero-valent nanoparticles.

An insight into the fate of Cu2+ and zero-valent iron during removal of Cu2+ by nanoscale zero-valent iron

Water Emerging Contaminants & Nanoplastics, 2023
Aim: The transformation of zero-valent iron (Fe0) and Cu2+ during Cu2+ removal by nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) has not been properly investigated using modern analytical techniques, despite its importance in environmental toxicology and surface chemistry associated with wastewater treatment/groundwater remediation.

Dechlorination of Pentachlorophenol by Zero Valent Iron and Modified Zero Valent Irons

Environmental Science & Technology, 2000
The disappearance of pentachlorophenol (PCP) from aqueous solutions in contact with zero valent metals (ZVMs) may be due to dechlorination reactions or sorption to ZVM-related surfaces.

Use of Zero-Valent Iron Nanoparticles in Inactivating Microbes

Water Research, 2009
Nanoscale zero-valent iron (NZVI) particles were investigated in inactivating gram-positive Bacillus subtilis var. niger and gram-negative Pseudomonas fluorescens bacteria, and the fungus Aspergillus versicolor. NZVI particles were synthesized using NaBH(4) and Fe(NO(3))(3).9H(2)O, and the microbial suspensions were subjected to the treatments of NZVI ...

Microbial reduction of perchlorate with zero-valent iron

Water Research, 2005
Microbial reduction of perchlorate in the presence of zero-valent iron was examined in both batch and column reactors to assess the potential of iron as the electron donor for biological perchlorate reduction process. Iron-supported mixed cultures completely removed 65 mg/L of perchlorate in batch reactors in 8 days.
