Dust deposition and lifting at the Zhurong landing site

IntroductionDust deposition poses the challenges to the survival of instruments and solar-powered missions on Mars [1, 2]. Zhurong in-situ observations provide an opportunity to study dust dynamics. Here, we present the dust evolution at the Zhurong landing site by means of the deposited optical depth on the Multispectral Camera (MSCam) calibration ...

Formation of Cones within the Zhurong Landing Area

On May 15, 2021, China’s first Mars exploration mission, Tianwen-1 (TW-1), successfully landed its Zhurong rover in the southern Utopia Planitia on Mars. Pitted cones, a characteristic feature of both Utopia Planitia and the landing area, play a pivotal role in understanding the local geological processes.

New insight into the surface composition of Zhurong landing area

The Zhurong rover conducted in-situ spectral investigations of southern Utopia Planitia, where orbital observations revealed the presence of spectrally featureless dust. However, in-situ reflectance spectra collected by the Short Wave Infrared (SWIR) spectrometer exhibit hydrated features for all observations along the traverse.

The Subsurface Structure of the Martian Utopia Basin Revealed by the Radar Data of the Zhurong Rover

Journal of Geophysical Research: Planets
Abstract The Zhurong rover, a key component of China's inaugural Mars exploration mission, successfully landed on the southern Utopia Planitia on 15 May 2021. Equipped with a dual‐channel ground‐penetrating radar (GPR), the rover conducted comprehensive investigations of the martian subsurface.
