In situ analysis of surface composition and meteorology at the Zhurong landing site on Mars. [PDF]

open access: yesNatl Sci Rev, 2023
ABSTRACT The Zhurong rover of the Tianwen-1 mission landed in southern Utopia Planitia, providing a unique window into the evolutionary history of the Martian lowlands. During its first 110 sols, Zhurong investigated and categorized surface targets into igneous rocks, lithified duricrusts, cemented duricrusts, soils and sands.

In Situ Observation of Weathering Rinds at the Zhurong Landing Site, Mars

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets
Abstract The Zhurong rover conducted in situ spectral investigations of southern Utopia Planitia, where the bedrock composition remains relatively unknown due to dust cover. Here we identify some spectrally distinct dark patches sporadically occurring on rocks by combining the Multispectral Camera and Short‐Wave Infrared data.

Slip Estimation Model for Planetary Rover Using Gaussian Process Regression

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Monitoring the rover slip is important; however, a certain level of estimation uncertainty is inevitable. In this paper, we establish slip estimation models for China’s Mars rover, Zhurong, using Gaussian process regression (GPR).

Geomorphic contexts and science focus of the Zhurong landing site on Mars [PDF]

open access: yesNature Astronomy, 2021
AbstractAs part of the Tianwen-1 mission, the Zhurong rover successfully touched down in southern Utopia Planitia on 15 May 2021. On the basis of the new sub-metre-resolution images from the High Resolution Imaging Camera on board the Tianwen-1 orbiter, we determined that the Zhurong rover landed at 109.925° E, 25.066° N at an elevation of −4,099.4 m ...
