Zinc and Copper Levels in Patients with Primary Hypertension and Normotension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
One of the causes of primary hypertension is an exposure to free radicals. The formation of free radicals in the body can be prevented by taking antioxidants. Zinc and copper are cofactors of endogenous antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase. This study

Low-energy structures of zinc borohydride Zn(BH$_4$)$_2$

open access: yes, 2012
We present a systematic study of the low-energy structures of zinc borohydride, a crystalline material proposed for the hydrogen storage purpose. In addition to the previously proposed structures, many new low-energy structures of zinc borohydride are ...

Zinc intake, status and indices of cognitive function in adults and children: a systematic review and meta-analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In developing countries, deficiencies of micronutrients are thought to have a major impact on child development; however, a consensus on the specific relationship between dietary zinc intake and cognitive function remains elusive.

Zinc in Tears

open access: yesOphthalmic Research, 1991
The tear and serum zinc (Zn) levels were determined simultaneously by atomic absorption spectrophotometry in 11 healthy subjects. The mean tear Zn level was found to be 1.537 +/- 0.146 (SEM) ppm while the mean serum Zn level was found to be 1.03 +/- 0.046 (SEM) ppm.

Influence of Testing Temperature on the Mechanical Performance of Brazed Conventionally and Additively Manufactured 316L Stainless Steel Joints

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports for the first time the mechanical properties of brazed joints featuring Additively manufactured parts, such parts will likely need to be joined or combined with other components, and brazing offers a way of doing this for complex shapes without distortion. A new shear test methodology developed for such joints is also described.

A study of zinc resistance and accumulation of zinc in scapania undulata (L) Dum [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
Scapania undulata (L.) Dum. is a bryophyte which is common in the upland streams of the North East of England. The zinc resistance of S. undulata from zinc enriched and from low zinc sites was investigated by means of laboratory toxicity tests and field ...

Assessing the Microstructure of SnBiZn Alloys during Semisolid Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The development of Sn‐based alloys for semisolid processing is crucial for Industry 4.0. This study investigates Sn40Bi and Sn40Bi2Zn alloys, revealing that Zn refines Sn‐rich globules by pinning dendrite boundaries. Bi saturation occurs at 60 min, while Zn enhances globule microhardness at 90 min through solid solution strengthening.

Mechanistic investigation on the influence of coating weights on the corrosion behaviour of hot-dip-galvanised Zn-Mg-Al coatings

open access: yesnpj Materials Degradation
Time-lapse Microscopy, scanning vibrating electrode technique and potentiodynamic methods were used to study the influence of increasing coating weight (80–310 gm–2) on microstructure, cut-edge and surface corrosion of Zn-Mg-Al coatings in 0.17 M NaCl ...
