This chapter presents key facts about zinc's role in the world together with technical reasons for its widespread use. The frequency and occurrence of zinc resources are compared with present and forecast demand, showing that more than 200 years of future demand will be met by known zinc resources.

Serum and urinary zinc in zinc miners and zinc smelters
Indian Journal of Clinical Biochemistry, 1992Serum (200.6±64.8 mg/dl) and urinary zinc (1186.0±265.5 mg/l.) of zinc miners at Zawar were significantly higher as compared to zinc smelter workers (Serum 89.7±9.9. mg/dl; Urine 590.0±32.1 mg/l.). Debari and Udaipur residents (Serum 104.0±18.6 mg/dl; Urine 735.0±180.2 mg/l.).

Leukocyte Zinc in the Assessment of Zinc Status
CRC Critical Reviews in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, 1984The problems of assessment of human zinc status are reviewed, with particular emphasis on the limitations to each of the current available measurements. The advantages and limitations of leukocytes are then described. Methods of preparation and potential problems in the assay for zinc are described in detail. The data so-far produced by this method are

Nutritional deficiency of zinc is widespread throughout the developing countries and a conditioned deficiency of zinc is known to occur in many diseased states. Zinc is known to play an important role in the immune system and zinc deficient subjects may experience increased susceptibility to a variety of pathogens. We have studied the effects of a mild

Neurobiology of Zinc and Zinc-Containing Neurons
1989Publisher Summary This chapter discusses separate pools of CNS zinc, which are, vesicular zinc, free zinc, and protein-bound zinc. Vesicular zinc is the one which is sequestered in the presynaptic vesicles of a special class of neurons, the zinc-containing neurons, which are found primarily in limbic, cerebrocortical, and corticofugal systems.
