Revealing the role of crystal orientation of protective layers for stable zinc anode

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries are a promising candidate for next-generation energy storage devices. However, their practical application is limited by the severe safety issue caused by uncontrollable dendrite growth on zinc anodes.

Enhanced discovery of bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase through computer simulation and metagenomic analysis of industrial wastewater

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We obtained potential bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase (LMCO) sequences through metagenomic sequencing. All sequences exhibited significant differences from known LMCOs in databases. To select the most promising candidates, we performed structure prediction and molecular docking using alphafold2, metal3d and rosetta.

Considerations and Challenges for Acute Inhalation Toxicity Testing and Classification of Zinc Sulphide Under REACH

open access: yesToxics
Zinc sulphide is a widely used inorganic powder, and its production has reached quantities greater than 1000 t/year. Therefore, in accordance with OECD guideline 436, an acute inhalation test was implemented to provide more accurate data.

Mutations in Superoxide Dismutase 1 (Sod1) Linked to Familial Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Can Disrupt High-Affinity Zinc-Binding Promoted by the Copper Chaperone for Sod1 (Ccs)

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Zinc (II) ions (hereafter simplified as zinc) are important for the structural and functional activity of many proteins. For Cu, Zn superoxide dismutase (Sod1), zinc stabilizes the native structure of each Sod1 monomer, promotes homo-dimerization and ...

A PANoptosis‐Based Signature for Survival and Immune Predication in Glioblastoma Multiforme

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective PANoptosis is a concept of total cell death characterized by pyroptosis, apoptosis, and necroptosis. We aimed to explore the clinical significance of PANoptosis‐related genes (PARGs) in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Methods Expression profiles of GBM were downloaded from the XENA database as a training dataset to construct a ...

A Novel Neuroprotective Mechanism of Riluzole: Direct Inhibition of Protein Kinase C

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2000
In addition to its antiexcitotoxic action, the anti-amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) neuroprotectant riluzole protects against nonexcitotoxic oxidative neuronal injury.

Histone Deacetylase 6 Brain PET in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis‐Frontotemporal Spectrum Disorder

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective [18F]EKZ‐001 is a positron emission tomography (PET) tracer targeting histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6), an enzyme responsible for intracellular transport and clearance of misfolded proteins. HDAC6 modulation is a promising treatment strategy in neurodegenerative disorders, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Zinc detoxification by a cyanobacterium from a metal contaminated bay in Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2004
We describe here the trapping of zinc in polyphosphate granules of the cyanobacterium Synechocystis aquatilis NPBS-3. Cells were cultured in 25 µM of zinc chloride and prepared for electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis.
