Challenges and protective strategies on zinc anode toward practical aqueous zinc‐ion batteries

open access: yesCarbon Neutralization
Over the past decades, there has been a growing interest in rechargeable aqueous Zn‐ion batteries (AZIBs) as a viable substitute for lithium‐ion batteries. This is primarily due to their low cost, lower redox potential, and high safety. Nevertheless, the

Multi‐Ion Doping Controlled CEI Formation in Structurally‐Stable High‐Energy Monoclinic‐Phase NASICON Cathodes for Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract illustrates the synthesis pathway, morphological feature, and thermodynamic feasibility of entropy‐engineered NASICON cathodes for sodium‐ion batteries. Abstract Overcoming the energy density limitations of sodium‐ion batteries (NIBs) requires innovative strategies to optimize cathode materials.

Zinc battery goes to anode-free

open access: yesNano Research Energy, 2023
The zinc (Zn) batteries have challenges include uncontrollable dendritic growth, unreasonable negative to positive ratio and limited areal capacity. This highlight presents the latest development to resolve the uncontrollable Zn dendrite formation at high areal capacities of 200 mAh·cm–2 through a two-dimensional metal/metal-Zn alloy heterostructured ...

Dual‐Functional Additive Regulating Zn2+ Solvation Structure and (002) Plane‐Oriented Deposition for Dendrite‐Free Zn Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sulfosalicylic acid (SSA) is introduced as a bifunctional additive for Aqueous zinc‐ion batteries. SSA reconstructs the solvation structure of Zn2+ through the synergistic effects of its multiple functional groups, suppressing side reactions while selectively promoting Zn (002) deposition to prevent dendrite formation.

Three‐in‐One Zinc Anodes Created by a Large‐scale Two‐Step Method Achieving Excellent Long‐Term Cyclic Reversibility and Thin Electrode Integrity

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Practical aqueous zinc‐ion batteries require low‐cost thin zinc anodes with long‐term reversible stripping/depositing. However, thin zinc anodes encounter more severe issues than thick zinc, such as dendrites and uneven stripping, resulting in subpar ...
