Chemical Twinning in Zintl Phases
Inorganic Chemistry, 1999In the systems Ba/Mg/(Si, Ge), two new ternary Zintl phases with the compositions BaMg(4)Si(3) and BaMg(4)Ge(3) were found and structurally characterized. Both compounds are isotypic and crystallize with a new structure type [BaMg(4)Si(3), P4/mmm, Z = 1, a = 4.6115(9) Å, c = 8.615(2) Å; BaMg(4)Ge(3), P4/mmm, Z = 1, a = 4.6335(8) Å, c = 8.746(2) Å]. The

The Zintl phase Eu2Si was synthesized from elemental europium and silicon in a sealed tantalum tube in a high-frequency furnace at 1270 K and subsequent annealing at 970 K. Investigation of the sample by X-ray powder and single crystal techniques revealed: Co2Si (anti-PbCl2) type, space group Pnma, a = 783.0(1), b = 504.71(9), c = 937.8(1) pm, wR2 = 0 ...

The metallic Zintl phase Ba3Sn4As6
Solid State Sciences, 2001Abstract The ternary Zintl compound barium tin arsenide, Ba3Sn4As6, has been synthesized at 950 °C, and its structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2h5−P21/n with a=8.6374(10) A, b=18.3536(13) A, c=9.7209(11) A, β=90.05(2)°, and Z=4 at 22 °C.

Anionic superstructures in liquid Zintl phases
Plasmas & Ions, 2000Abstract In many liquid alloys of the alkali metals with members of the post-transition sp elements intermediate-range ordering occurs. It is supposed that in such alloys, which have an ionic character, the anions form clusters (polyanions). These clusters are remnants of the so-called Zintl ions, found in many of the corresponding solid alloys ...

Hydrogenation properties of KSi and NaSi Zintl phases
Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2012The recently reported KSi-KSiH(3) system can store 4.3 wt% of hydrogen reversibly with slow kinetics of several hours for complete absorption at 373 K and complete desorption at 473 K. From the kinetics measured at different temperatures, the Arrhenius plots give activation energies (E(a)) of 56.0 ± 5.7 kJ mol(-1) and 121 ± 17 kJ mol(-1) for the ...

The Zintl phases Sr2.2Mg11.8Ge7 and Sr5Mg19Ge12
Journal of Solid State Chemistry, 1991Abstract Synthetic investigations of the SrxMg2−xGe section have been carried out in sealed Ta containers. These reveal, in addition to the known Mg2Ge, MgSrGe, and Sr2Ge, two new phases with the nominal compositions Sr2Mg12Ge7 and Sr5Mg19Ge12. The first is a line compound that is isostructural with Zr2Fe12P7 ( P 6 , Z = 1, a = 11.064 (1) A c =

Trigonal SrAl2H2: the first Zintl phase hydride
Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2000Abstract The title compound and its deuteride were synthesized by hydrogenating/deuterating SrAl 2 at 50 bar H 2 /D 2 pressure and temperatures below 200°C. As found by in situ X-ray powder diffraction, the hydrogenation of SrAl 2 proceeds in three steps, with SrAl 2 H 2 as the first product.

Zintl phase crystal assembled by magic Al6CNa4 cluster
Chemical Physics Letters, 2020Abstract Al6CNa4 is a strong magic structure and Al6C4− forms a superatomic anion. Based on the geometric and electronic structures of Al6CNa4, a cluster assembled crystal is built. The electronic structures of the isolated cluster are well preserved and the assembled crystal is a superlight Zintl phase semiconductor. The interaction energy among the
