Dynamic Modulation of the Microenvironment Promotes Functional Maturation of Engineered Tissues

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered tissues lack the dynamic microenvironment of native tissues. A biocompatible, diffusible small molecule to dynamically modulate tissue microenvironments during maturation is used. Timing‐dependent modulation yields distinct outcomes, producing thicker, more native‐like blood vessels, stronger and more mature cardiac tissues, and optimized ...

Real-World Adherence to a Delirium Screening Test Administered by Nurses and Medical Staff during Routine Patient Care

open access: yesBrain Sciences
Delirium is often the first symptom of incipient acute illness or complications and must therefore be detected promptly. Nevertheless, routine screening for delirium in acute care hospital wards is often inadequate. We recently implemented a simple, user-

Engineered Protein‐Based Ionic Conductors for Sustainable Energy Storage Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Rational incorporation of charged residues into an engineered, self‐assembling protein scaffold yields solid‐state protein films with outstanding ionic conductivity. Salt‐doping further enhances conductivity, an effect amplified in the engineered variants. These properties enable the material integration into an efficient supercapacitor.

Why Is the Mechanism Underlying the Chiral‐Induced Selectivity Effect Still Challenging?

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The chiral‐induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect is observed in many experimental configurations and for different materials. However, there are theoretical challenges in attempting to explain those results. A qualitative framework for explaining all the results is presented.

Bioelectrical Interfaces Beyond Excitable Cells: Cancer, Aging, and Gene Expression Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The investigation of biological conductivity has evolved from its classical foundation based on ionic fluxes underpinning cardiac and neuronal excitability to a multifaceted regulator of cellular physiology. Traditional approaches for probing electrical events in living matter focused largely on action potentials recording.

Revealing Zion\u27s Daughters: Women in Puritan Jurisprudence

open access: yes, 2007
The legal status of American women has consistently been portrayed as a linear progression flowing from a colonial jurisprudential repression and exclusion to a modern-day legal equity and a female influence within every aspect of justice.
