Evaluation of surface characteristics and natural radioactivity of mineral-based glaze according to zircon substitution

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies
Zircon (ZrSiO4) is widely utilized as an opacifying agent in the glazes of sanitary-ware and ceramic tile. Zircon is dispersed in the glassy phase during the manufacture process of glaze, contributing a high refractive index and enhanced mechanical ...

The nature of zircon in the Volkovsky massif gabbro (Middle Urals): the age problem and geochronological consequences

open access: yesЛитосфера, 2017
The article presents new isotope-geochemical data on zircon from gabbronorites of the Volkovsky massif in the Middle Urals. The massif is a complex combination of different rock associations - from ultramafic rocks to syenites and quartz diorites, whose ...

Pre-1.91 Ga deformation and metamorphism in the Palaeoproterozoic Vammala Migmatite Belt, southern Finland, and implications for Svecofennian tectonics [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Geological Society of Finland, 2004
A metamorphic event in the Vammala Migmatite Belt (VMB) at ~1.92 Ga, revealed by SHRIMP U-Pb analyses of both zircon overgrowths and monazite, is interpreted as post-depositional and is correlated with the development of the early high-grade schistosity.

Early Cambrian U-Pb zircon age and Hf-isotope data from the Guasayán pluton, Sierras Pampeanas, Argentina: implications for the northwestern boundary of the Pampean arc [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
An Early Cambrian pluton, known as the Guasayán pluton, has been identified in the central area of Sierra de Guasayán, northwestern Argentina. A U?Pb zircon Concordia age of 533 ± 4 Ma was obtained by LA-MC-ICP-MS and represents the first report of ...

A Reproducible SEM Surface Imaging Protocol for Monitoring Microstructural Changes During Gas–Rock Interactions

open access: yesGreenhouse Gases: Science and Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Reliable characterization of mineralogical and textural changes in rock samples is essential for understanding fluid–rock interactions, particularly in experimental studies simulating subsurface conditions. This study presents a reproducible protocol for scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis of rock surfaces before and after exposure to ...

SHRIMP U-Pb zircon dating of Pedras Grandes Suite, southern Santa Catarina State, Brazil

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2005
Two major magmatic pulses of the granitic Florianópolis Batholith in Santa Catarina State, southern Brazil, occurred between 613±5Ma and 595±5 Ma, during the Neoproterozoic Brasiliano Cycle.

Fluids in the Siilinjärvi carbonatite complex, eastern Finland: Fluid inclusion evidence for the formation conditions of zircon and apatite [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Geological Society of Finland, 1995
In the studied zircon and apatite crystals, data recorded two different compositional types of fluid inclusions: Type 1 H2O-CO2 low salinity inclusions (XCO2 = 0.42 to 0.87; XNaCl = 0.001 to 0.005) with bulk densities of 0.73 to 0.87 g/cm3, and Type 2 ...

Zircon U-Pb dating of Mesozoic volcanic and tectonic events in northwest Palmer Land and southwest Graham Land, Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
New whole rock Rb-Sr and zircon U-Pb geochronological data and Sm-Nd isotopic data are presented from the central magmatic arc domain of the Antarctic Peninsula in the area of northwest Palmer Land and southwest Graham Land, Rb-Sr isochrons indicate an ...

Evidence From Microscopy and U–Pb Geochronology as a Clue to the Influence of the Cretaceous Magmatism in the Diagenesis of Pre‐Salt Carbonate Reservoirs in the Santos Basin (Brazil)

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Carbonates from Santos Basin revealed U–Pb ages correlated with basalt ages (A), suggesting that they were formed during magmatic events. These events placed hot CO2 in the reservoir, which, when mixed with carbonate‐rich cold water (B), led to thermal convection, enabling the formation of the U contained in the carbonates.

Zircon Solubility, Metamict ZrSiO4 Replacement, and Hydrothermal Zircon Formation at Upper Crustal Pressures

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
Stable and inert under most conditions, zircon can be dissolved and precipitated by aqueous fluids in the upper crust. Geochemical models using currently available thermodynamic properties for Zr aqueous species at 0.2 GPa predict that zircon solubility ...
