A Stabilization Mechanism of Zirconia Based on Oxygen Vacancies Only

open access: yes, 2002
The microscopic mechanism leading to stabilization of cubic and tetragonal forms of zirconia (ZrO$_2$) is analyzed by means of a self-consistent tight-binding model.

Plasticity of nanocrystalline zirconia ceramics and composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The deformation strain rate of nanocrystalline Y-TZP shows an increase by a factor 4 if the grain size decreases from 200 to 100 nm. Real superplastic deformation (strain rate > 10−4 s−1) is observed in these materials at relative low temperature (1100 ...

Formation of Stable Amorphous Calcium Phosphate and Collagen Assemblies by a Versatile Spray‐Drying Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) microparticles with long‐term and thermal stability are prepared with or without collagen using a scalable one‐pot spray‐drying process. Under simulated physiological conditions, they crystallize into biomimetic bone mineral and, when combined with collagen, form extrudable, fibrillar bone‐like 3D constructs.

Intergranular metal phase increases thermal shock resistance of ceramic coating [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Dispersed copper phase increases the thermal shock resistance of a plasma-arc-sprayed coating of zirconia used as a heat barrier on a metal substrate. A small amount of copper is deposited on the granules of the zirconia powder before arc-spraying the ...

MXene/PEDOT Functional Coatings on Flexible Microelectrode Arrays for Multianalyte In Vivo Neurochemical Sensing and Electrophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A MXene/PEDOT coating enables multimodal functionality and dual‐analyte detection of dopamine and serotonin in flexible microelectrode arrays while enhancing electrophysiological recording quality. The anti‐fouling, low‐impedance interface overcomes key limitations of conventional coatings, providing a robust and versatile platform to investigate the ...

Inverse opal ceria–zirconia: architectural engineering for heterogeneous catalysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The application of inverse opal structured materials is extended to the ceria–zirconia (Ce_(0.5)Zr_(0.5)O_2) system and the significance of material architecture on heterogeneous catalysis, specifically, chemical oxidation, is ...

Fast Track to the Overdoped Regime of Superconducting YBa2Cu3O7‐δ Thin Films via Electrochemical Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Overdoping high temperature superconductors, such as YBa2Cu3O7‐δ (YBCO), is expected to maxime the critical current density by optimising the condensation energy for a given defect landscape, providing new thrust for the development of fusion enabling coated conductors. Here, precise oxygen control is achieved via an electrochemical method allowing for

Effect of solid loading on properties of zirconia ceramic by direct ink writing

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2021
High solid loading water-based zirconia slurries for direct ink writing had been successfully prepared in this paper. The water-soluble epoxy resin and sodium polyacrylate were used as the binder and dispersant, respectively.
