Anodic oxidation of Mg–Cu and Mg–Zn alloys

open access: yesElectrochimica Acta, 2004
Metastable, solid–solution Mg-0.8 at.% Cu and Mg-1.4 at.% Zn alloys have been anodized up to 250 V at 10 mA cm−2 in an alkaline phosphate electrolyte at 293 K in order to investigate the enriching of alloying elements beneath the anodic films. Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS) revealed enrichments to about 4.1×1015 Cu atoms cm−2 and 5.2×1015

Bandgap‐Engineered AlGaAs/GaAs Heterostructures for Wavelength‐Selective Dual‐Polarity Photoelectrochemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bandgap‐engineered AlGaAs/GaAs heterostructures exhibit wavelength‐selective dual‐polarity photoelectrochemistry, switching from photocathodic to photoanodic response depending on excitation wavelength. The polarity transition is governed by band‐selective absorption, built‐in electric‐field‐driven carrier transport, and interfacial charge‐transfer ...

Passivated Zn Powders as Metal Anode

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces
AbstractImpacted by heavy corrosion and poor connections, zinc (Zn) powders have rarely been considered as the raw materials of Zn‐ion aqueous batteries (ZABs). Nonetheless, the ease of controlling loadings of Zn powders entitles ZABs to better capacity match between negative and positive electrodes.

Sustainable Electrochemical Synthesis of High‐Quality MXenes: Mechanistic Insights, Applications, Challenges, and Technological Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrochemical etching provides an eco‐friendly alternative to hazardous HF methods for MXene production. This approach facilitates the selective isolation of the A‐layer from MAX phases with tunable surface terminations. Controlling voltage, electrolytes, temperature, and duration enables the optimal structural integrity. Nevertheless, existing scale

Atomic Layer Deposition Processes: Versatile Platforms for Engineering ZnO‐Chitosan Biointerfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Vapour phase metalation (VPM), multiplied pulsed vapour phase infiltration (MPI), and O2 plasma‑enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) tailor Zn–chitosan (Zn‑CS) films. PEALD improves wettability and biocompatibility. MPI enhances semiconductor behavior. Antiseptic selectivity: VPM → E. coli; MPI → H. pylori.

Highly Reversible Zn Anodes Achieved by Enhancing Ion-Transport Kinetics and Modulating Zn (002) Deposition

open access: yes
Uncontrolled dendrite growth and water-related side reactions in mild electrolytes are the main causes of poor cycling stability of zinc anodes, resulting in the deterioration of aqueous zinc-based batteries.

Crystal Growth Engineering for Dendrite‐Free Zinc Metal Plating

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This research employed the rare‐earth ion dysprosium (Dy) to modulate aqueous zinc (Zn) metal plating. Integrated multiscale experiments and computational modeling unveiled the preferential adsorption of Dy on specific crystal facets, which activated screw dislocation‐driven Zn growth.

A Facile Candle-Soot Nanoparticle Decoration Enables Dendrite-Free Zn Anodes for Long-Cycling Aqueous Batteries

open access: yes, 2023
The practical application of aqueous Zn-metal batteries (ZMBs) is largely hampered by awful parasitic reactions and notorious dendrite growth occurring on Zn anodes.

Lamella-nanostructured eutectic zinc–aluminum alloys as reversible and dendrite-free anodes for aqueous rechargeable batteries

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Aqueous rechargeable Zn-ion batteries are attractive energy storage devices, but their wide adoption is impeded by the irreversible metallic Zn anode. Here the authors report lamellar-nanostructured eutectic Zn/Al alloys as reversible and dendrite-free ...
