Strain‐Induced Redistribution of Point Defects in ZnO Nanoparticles

open access: yesSmall Science, Volume 6, Issue 3, March 2026.
Powder compaction generates local strain effects in ZnO nanoparticles. This alters the abundance of intrinsic point defects and impacts the semiconductor's electronic structure. Such changes were analyzed by a combination of spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations and emphasize the importance of strain effects in the design and ...

Ultra‐Rapid Blacklight Sintering for ZnO‐Based Varistors With Optimized Functional Properties

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The increasing demand for energy‐efficient optoelectronic systems has intensified interest in high‐performance ceramic varistors, which are critical components in surge protection applications. In this study, ZnO‐based varistors were fabricated using a novel blacklight sintering (BLS) technique, which employs high‐powered blue light, and were ...

External Leakage Current Separation to Determine Arrester Condition Due to Contamination

open access: yesJurnal Nasional Teknik Elektro, 2023
Leakage current measurements can be used to determine the aging condition of the ZnO arrester. The leakage current that occurs in the arrester is divided into two, namely external and internal leakage currents.

Grain Boundary Space Charge Engineering of Solid Oxide Electrolytes: Model Thin Film Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 14, 16 February 2026.
This study demonstrates unprecedented control of grain boundary electrical properties in solid electrolytes. Selective diffusion of cations through grain boundaries in thin films enables 12 orders of magnitude variation in ionic resistance, proving that systematic chemical modification of grain boundary electrical properties is feasible.

Effect of soda lime silica glass doping on ZnO varistor ceramics: dry milling method

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies, 2020
There is a lack of reports where dry milling methods have been used in the preparation of varistor based ceramics. Dry milling methods have been demonstrated to be able to produce fine and homogeneous sample powders.

Stability of ZnO-Pr6o11-Cr2O3 varistor ceramics against electrical degradation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The vulnerability of varistor ceramics to electrical degradation during operation not only affects their nonlinear properties but also leads to shortening of device’s lifetime by increasing the risk of failures including melting, fire or even explosions.
