Ferroelectricity in Antiferromagnetic Wurtzite Nitrides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We establish MnSiN2${\rm MnSiN}_2$ and MnGeN2${\rm MnGeN}_2$ as aristotypes of a new multiferroic wurtzite family that simultaneously exhibits ferroelectricity and antiferromagnetism with altermagnetic spin splitting. By strategically substituting alkaline‐earth metals, we predict new materials with coexisting switchable polarization, spin texture, and

Optical and magnetic properties of ZnS nanoparticles doped with Mn2+

open access: yes, 2005
ZnS:Mn nanoparticles of the cubic zinc blende structure with the average sizes of about 3 nm were synthesized using a coprecipitation method and their optical and magnetic properties were investigated.

Role of Intrinsic Electron Trapping in Negative Charging of Amorphous Alumina

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intrinsic electron trapping in amorphous Al2O3 is examined using hybrid‐DFT models spanning a wide density range. Both spontaneous and thermally activated trapping are identified, with pronounced spontaneous localization in dense, partly crystallized structures.

Vapor-phase synthesis of one-dimensional ZnS, CdS, and ZnxCd1–xS nanostructures

open access: yes, 2010
One-dimensional (1D) nanostructures have received prime attention due to their high potential in understanding fundamental physical concepts and constructing nanoscale electronic devices. ZnS and CdS, the well-known direct and wide bandgap semiconductors,

Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,

Thermoluminescence of ZnS nanoparticles

open access: yes, 1997
The thermoluminescence (TL) of ZnS nanoparticles is reported. The TL intensity increases as the particle size is decreased. The consistency of the size dependence of the TL with that of the surface fluorescence indicates that the TL may be related to the

Effect of ZnS buffer layers in ZnO/ZnS/CdS nanorod array photoelectrode on the photoelectrochemical performance

open access: yes, 2014
ZnO/CdS/ZnS and ZnO/ZnS/CdS nanorod array photoelectrodes were constructed and fabricated by an alternative chemical bath deposition of CdS and ZnS layers onto the surface of the ZnO nanorod array.

Self‐Sintering Ionogel Binder for Flexible, Recyclable, and Healable Printed Giant Magnetoresistive Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Electronic waste has emerged as a major environmental challenge, driven by the massive consumption and a limited lifetime of modern electronic devices, stimulating the development of sustainable electronics. Here, an all‐biomaterial gelatin‐choline‐citric acid ([Ch][CA]) ionogel is developed as an active binder to realize self‐sintered ...

Preparation of photostable quantum dot-polystyrene microbeads through covalent organosilane coupling of CdSe@Zns quantum dots

open access: yes, 2009
We report preparation of highly photoluminescent CdSe@ZnS quantum dot-polystyrene composite beads, by employing stepwisely: (1) a simultaneous ZnS shell formation and ligand exchange with 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxy silane ( MPS); (2) coupling MPS with ...
