Prioritization of Users in Ecosystem Service Valuation: Implications for the Design of Differentiated Conservation Policies. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
These findings support the proposal of differentiated conservation strategies aligned with the social priorities of various educational groups. It is concluded that public conservation policies must incorporate the diversity of social perceptions as an essential element for achieving sustainable and participatory environmental management.

Heat drastically alters floral color and pigment composition without affecting flower conspicuousness. [PDF]

open access: yesAm J Bot
Abstract Premise Floral pigments primarily serve to attract pollinators through color display and also contribute to protection against environmental stress. Although pigment composition can be plastically altered under stress, its impact on pollinator color perception remains poorly understood.

Demography and Population Dynamics of a Small Mammal Assemblage in Chilean Semiarid Thorn-Scrub Habitat: A 30-Year Study. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Using the longest and most comprehensive demographic database available in temperate South America, we characterize the population dynamics of an entire community of small mammals in a semiarid environment in north‐central Chile using a superpopulation CMR modeling framework.

Size matters: Physiological sensitivity of the scallop Argopecten purpuratus to seasonal cooling and deoxygenation upwelling-driven events

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
Environment imposes physiological constraints which are life-stage specific as growth-maintenance and/or growth-reproduction energetic requirements are size and volume-dependent.

Runoff and soil loss in biocrusts and physical crusts from the Tabernas Desert (southeast Spain) according to rainfall intensity

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
Biological soil crusts (biocrusts) influence hydrological and erosive processes in drylands, and their effects increase with hypothetic successional development. Runoff and raindrops, both dependent on rain intensity, are among the main causes of erosion

The Snowline and 0°C Isotherm Altitudes During Precipitation Events in the Dry Subtropical Chilean Andes as Seen by Citizen Science, Surface Stations, and ERA5 Reanalysis Data

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
Understanding the variability of the snowline and the closely related 0°C isotherm during infrequent precipitation events in the dry Andes in Chile is fundamental for precipitation, snow cover, and discharge predictions. For instance, it is known that on
