Zoning in or zoning out?

2023
The critique of planning and new proposals to reform the planning system and ‘rethink planning from first principles’ have led to the proposal for a regulatory zonal planning system, which it is claimed will create a faster and better planning system than the existing discretionary approach.

In the Zone! — Controlling and Visualising Sound Zones

CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems Extended Abstracts, 2022
Sound zones enable multiple simultaneous sound experiences in the same physical room without interference. In this paper, we present an interactive sound zone setup that can produce two sound zones within a confined space. Through a tangible remote controller, users can change the volume, size, and position of these sound zones.

System zones in capillary zone electrophoresis

ELECTROPHORESIS, 2004
AbstractWhen working with capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE), the analyst has to be aware that the separation system is not homogeneous anymore as soon as a sample is brought into the background electrolyte (BGE). Upon injection, the analyte creates a disturbance in the concentration of the BGE, and the system retains a kind of memory for this ...

System zones in capillary zone electrophoresis

ELECTROPHORESIS, 2001
This paper brings an overview of system zones (SZs) in capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) and their effects upon the migration of zones of analytes. It is shown that the formation and migration of SZs is an inherent feature of CZE, and that it depends predominantly on the composition of an actual background electrolyte (BGE).

Zoned-RAID

ACM Transactions on Storage, 2007
The RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) system has been widely used in practical storage applications for better performance, cost effectiveness, and reliability. This study proposes a novel variant of RAID named Zoned-RAID (Z-RAID). Z-RAID improves the performance of traditional RAID by utilizing the zoning property of modern disks which ...

Zone scheduling

IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems, 1993
A technique for the resource constrained scheduling problem in high level synthesis is presented. The approach works by successively partitioning the control steps into zones and solving each of them by a 0.1 integer linear programming (ILP) technique.

Zoning in on podocytes

Kidney International, 2022
Podocytes undergo defined morphologic changes during development, homeostasis, and aging, and on injury. Quantitative podometric assessments of podocyte endowment provide a powerful tool to interrogate glomerular health. Expanding this approach to a regional assessment demonstrates that the podocytes from cortical, subcortical, and juxtamedullary ...

The Comfort Zone

Computer, 2013
Interdisciplinary work is a key part of computing, but it often demands that we drop old conceptions and learn to think as others do. The Web extra at http://youtu.be/y8BSzeoZDCA is a video segment in which author David Alan Grier expands on his Errant Hashtag column, in which he discusses how interdisciplinary work is a key part of computing, but that
