Does Conservation Status Matter if You’re Ugly? An Experimental Survey of Species Appeal and Public Support [PDF]
Wildlife conservation is of the utmost importance to the preservation of a healthy planet, with the extinction of wild animals increasing at previously unseen rates.

ABSTRACT Frontline managers' (FLMs) involvement in HR execution has been proven imperative for an effective HR system. It is unclear, however, how FLMs can reconcile competing pressures for HR consistency versus idiosyncratic HR implementation (i.e., HR I‐deals) and demonstrate a balanced HR enactment.

The effect of food provisioning on the nutrient intake of wild and captive primates : implications for the conservation management of wild and captive populations : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctorate of Philosophy in Ecology, Massey University, Albany, New Zealand [PDF]
Many non-human primate populations worldwide are threatened with extinction. Various measures are taken to save these species. Amongst these efforts are habitat protection, restoration, and public education, including wildlife tourism.

Zoos and aquariums have recognized the paramount importance of animal welfare. Achieving and maintaining the highest possible standards of animal welfare is not only a moral obligation but also a necessary condition for zoos and aquariums to fulfil their educational and conservational functions. However, evaluating the welfare of zoo animals presents a

Abstract Passive environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling is rapidly emerging as a powerful alternative to active sampling methods (e.g. direct water sampling), with a rapidly growing diversity of tested approaches but little methodological convergence.

Phylogenetically‐Informed Crayfish Conservation in the Face of Climate Change
Crayfish are a vital part of freshwater ecosystems, yet one third of assessed species are threatened with extinction, and almost 90% are highly sensitive to climate change. In this study, we produced a phylogenetically‐informed species prioritisation for crayfish conservation and explored the impacts of projected climate change scenarios on crayfish ...

Impact of different handling styles (good vs. adverse) on growth performance, behavior, and cortisol concentrations in beef cattle [PDF]
Our objective was to determine effects of aggressive handling on growth performance, behavior, and cortisol concentrations in beef calves. Crossbred calves (313 ± 4.7 kg; n = 54; 24 steers, 30 heifers) from a single herd were stratified by gender, body ...

This study highlights the importance of the unprotected Yabassi Key Biodiversity Area, Cameroon, for primate conservation in the Gulf of Guinea biodiversity hotspot. We modelled primate distribution patterns and found that historically overlooked parts of the landscape have high species richness and are critical for some threatened species.

Managing the Threat of Subsidized Predators for a Threatened Shorebird
Subsidized predators—native predators that have become more common due to human activities—challenge the persistence of many at‐risk prey species and require creative solutions beyond lethal predator control. In an 8‐year study, we placed small wire cages over western snowy plover nests that allow passage of plovers, but not their predators, and ...

Captive populations of threatened species risk losing genetic diversity over time. We evaluated the genetic status of contemporary captive western lowland gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) at Howletts and Port Lympne and compared this with specimens from a historical wild population.
