Little information was previously available on the sediments and invertebrate faunas of the deep waters of the large lochs of Scotland, except Loch Lomond. This paper reviews the published data and presents new information for the five largest lochs. The profundal sediments are characterised by very fine particle sizes (high fractions of clay and silt)
