Fishes of the eastern part of the Indo-Australian Archipelago with remarks on its zoogeography

open access: yes, 1913
The collection of fishes, brought together during my voyage in the eastern part of the Indo-Australian Archipelago in 1909—1910, consists of about 1700 specimens belonging to nearly 270 species, of which 9 were apparently new to science.

A zoogeographic model for the evolution of diversity and endemism in Madagascar

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2025, Issue 8, August 2025.
The delineation of zoogeographic regions is essential for understanding the evolution of biodiversity. Madagascar, characterized by high levels of endemism and habitat diversity, presents unique challenges and opportunities for such studies. Traditional global zoogeographic classifications, largely based on vertebrates, may overlook finer‐scale ...

Population genetic and phylogenetic insights into the adaptive radiation of Antarctic notothenioid fishes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Adaptive radiation is the evolution of ecological and phenotypic diversity within a rapidly multiplying lineage, a phenomenon that is considered responsible for a great part of Earthʼs biodiversity.

Inventory of color polymorphism in populations of Dendrobates galactonotus (Anura: Dendrobatidae), a poison frog endemic to Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesPhyllomedusa: Journal of Herpetology, 2012
We studied the various color morphs of Dendrobates galactonotus that occur in its range between the Amazon and Tapajós rivers, in the Brazilian states of Pará, Maranhão, northern Mato Grosso, and northern Tocantins. Dorsal coloration ranges from black to

Perspectives in the study of the zoogeography of interstitial crustacea: Bathynellacea (Syncarida) and Parastenocarididae (Copepoda) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
Aspects of the zoogeography of Bathynellacea and Parastenocarididae are discussed in the light of my recent investigations. Parastenocarididae in Australia are rare and not very diverse in number of species.

Global Enhancers and Constraints of Alien Range Size in Mammals: The Roles of Species Attributes, Invasion History and Ecological Contexts

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 34, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim The rapid global expansion of alien invasion fronts is profoundly impacting native ecosystems. Understanding the enhancers and constraints behind the range size of alien species is crucial for mitigating biodiversity loss. While mammals are among the most well‐studied taxa worldwide, their global invasion ecology remains under‐investigated.

Zoogeography of Bats [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
The Order Chiroptera is the second largest order of mammals, with, according to my most recent revised figure, 846 species. Inasmuch as the group is world-wide, reaching many distant islands, and inasmuch as many species and higher groups are quite ...

The Primate Name Yòu (狖) and Its Referents: Implications for the Future Conservation of François' Langurs in China 灵长类动物名称“狖”及其指代对象再钩沉: 对中国黑叶猴 (Trachypithecus francoisi) 未来保护的启迪

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 2, Page 246-253, June 2025.
After the great Chinese poet Qu Yuan (屈原) was exiled to Xupu (溆浦) county in Hu' nan province, he described the forest there as follows: “mysterious is the deep forest, the place where Yuán yòu dwell (深林杳以冥冥兮,乃猿狖之所居).” What is the referent of the name Yuán yòu in this sentence?
