Growth Hormone Promotes Lipolysis and Impairs Insulin Sensitivity by Activating the ERK/HSL Signaling Pathway in Bovine Adipocytes

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study was to evaluate the role of GH in lipolysis and insulin sensitivity in bovine adipocytes and clarify the underlying mechanism. Our findings demonstrate that GH activates ERK/HSL signaling pathway, promotes lipolysis, and impairs insulin sensitivity in bovine adipocytes.

Adjustment and Completion of BASNEF Model to Provide a New Model for Educating Large Populations in Relation to Cutaneous Leishmaniasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: Educational models that have been created for educating small populations do not have enough efficacy for educating large populations, so based on this premise and also high prevalence of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL) in the Islamic Republic

Driving improvements in emerging disease surveillance through locally-relevant capacity strengthening [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) threaten the health of people, animals, and crops globally, but our ability to predict their occurrence is limited. Current public health capacity and ability to detect and respond to EIDs is typically weakest in low ...

Hantaviruses as emergent zoonoses [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases, 2008
Hantaviruses belong to the Bunyaviridae family, which consists of vector-borne viruses. These viruses can provoke two infection types: hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) - which occurs in the Old World - and hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS) - an emergent zoonosis that can be found in many countries of the western hemisphere. Rodents

Towards One Health clinical management of zoonoses: A parallel survey of Australian general medical practitioners and veterinarians

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, 2020
General medical practitioners (GPs) and veterinarians have different but complementary knowledge and skills, with potential to enhance clinical management of zoonoses in human and animal patients through taking a One Health approach that promotes cross ...

Major Causes of Rabies Outbreak in Pastoral Areas of the Somali Region and Importance of the One Health Approach

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Rabies Transmission and Control in the Somali Region. Introduction: Rabies is a fatal zoonotic disease caused by the Lyssavirus, posing a significant threat to both wildlife and public health in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. Key Points: 1. Primary Hosts: Wild carnivores such as foxes, jackals, raccoons, skunks, bats, and honey badgers are the main ...

Process intensification of the baculovirus expression vector system using a perfusion process with a low multiplicity of infection at high cell concentrations

open access: yesBiotechnology Progress, EarlyView.
Abstract The emergence of new viruses and the spread of existing pathogens necessitate efficient vaccine production methods. The baculovirus expression vector system (BEVS) is an efficient and scalable system for subunit and virus‐like particle vaccine production and gene therapy vectors.

Formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) samples help to investigate transcriptomic responses in wildlife disease

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Infectious diseases impact numerous organisms. Knowledge of host‐pathogen interactions and host responses to infection is crucial for conservation and management. Obtaining this knowledge quickly is made increasingly possible by a variety of genomic approaches, yet, for many species the bottleneck to understanding this, remains access to ...

Algorithmic Bio-surveillance For Precise Spatio-temporal Prediction of Zoonotic Emergence [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Viral zoonoses have emerged as the key drivers of recent pandemics. Human infection by zoonotic viruses are either spillover events -- isolated infections that fail to cause a widespread contagion -- or species jumps, where successful adaptation to the new host leads to a pandemic.
