Sensitive detection systems for infectious agents in xenotransplantation*
Abstract Xenotransplantation of pig cells, tissues, or organs may be associated with transmission of porcine microorganisms, first of all of viruses, to the transplant recipient, potentially inducing a disease (zoonosis). I would like to define detection systems as the complex of sample generation, sample preparation, sample origin, time of sampling ...

Host Switching of Zoonotic Broad Fish Tapeworm (Dibothriocephalus latus) to Salmonids, Patagonia [PDF]
Diphyllobothriosis is a reemerging zoonotic disease because of global trade and increased popularity of eating raw fish. We present molecular evidence of host switching of a human-infecting broad fish tapeworm, Dibothriocephalus latus, and use of ...

Two mice models for transferability of zoonotic bacteria via tick vector
Spotted fever and typhus-related diseases caused by rickettsiae, Lyme borreliosis induced by spirochetes from Borrelia burgdorferii sensu lato complex, and Q fever evoked by Coxiella burnetii, are important zoonoses occurring worldwide. In order to study the pathogenesis of these infections, the efficacy of vaccines from the perspective of protection ...

First Molecular Evidence of Zoonotic Bacteria in Ticks in Bosnia and Herzegovina [PDF]
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the tick fauna is very diverse, but data on the occurrence of zoonotic tick-borne bacteria are lacking. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the presence of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato, Anaplasma phagocytophilum, 'Candidatus Neoehrlichia mikurensis', spotted fever group (SFG) rickettsiae and Francisella ...

Eczema Monkeypoxicum Following Sexual Transmission Treated With Tecovirimat
ABSTRACT Mpox is a zoonotic viral infection caused by monkeypox virus (MPXV) and risk factors for its dissemination include previous dermatoses such as atopic dermatitis [1]. We present the case of a 30‐year‐old male with an unusual and extensive presentation of mpox following unprotected sexual intercourse, with an excellent response to tecovirimat ...

Polydopamine‐Antibiotic Composite Coating for Antibiofilm Applications
Antibiotic‐loaded polydopamine coatings are developed to combat biofilm‐forming bacteria on catheter surfaces. These coatings strongly inhibit Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm formation on diverse materials, including during continuous artificial‐urine flow, and can accommodate multiple antibiotics.

Abstract Understanding the frequency and socio‐ecological drivers of contacts between humans and non‐human primates (NHPs) is crucial for enhancing coexistence that favours NHP conservation, while limiting negative consequences such as aggressions and cross‐species disease transmission.

ABSTRACT Timely detection of viral infections, particularly in settings outside centralized laboratories, is essential for controlling outbrakes. Small electrochemical biosensors are appealing because they are fast, require microliter sample volumes, and can be integrated into portable devices.
