Drop‐on‐Demand Printed Negative Dielectric Anisotropy Liquid Crystal Droplets for Adaptive Complex Beam Manipulation and Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Printed negative‐dielectric‐anisotropy liquid‐crystal droplets enable multidimensional full‐vectorial optical‐field sensing across polarization, phase, and wavelength, while also generating tunable skyrmionic‐like complex optical fields. ABSTRACT Adaptive manipulation of vectorial optical fields is important for optical metrology, imaging, and ...

The Effect of Si and Zr on the Formation of Al3X and V-Phase in a 6005A Alloy with Sc—Part 1: Alloy Design and Heat Treatment Selection

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing
Adding Sc to 6xxx series alloys has led to inconsistent results due to the formation of the high-temperature, thermodynamically stable V-phase (AlSc2Si2).

Thermodynamic Assessment of the Fe–O–Zr, Cr–O–Zr and O–Sn–Zr Ternary Systems

open access: yesCalphad
The Fe-O-Zr, Cr-O-Zr, and O-Sn-Zr ternary systems have been modeled using the CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagrams) method to develop comprehensive thermodynamic descriptions essential for applications in nuclear materials and corrosion science. Experimental data from the literature and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were used within ...

Defect‐Free Transfer Principles for Scalable, Thin Garnet‐Based Hybrid Solid Electrolytes in Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Defect‐free transfer principles enable scalable fabrication of 15 µm‐thin garnet‐based hybrid solid electrolytes. Hansen solubility parameters correlate interfacial compatibility with coating, transfer, and impregnation behavior, guiding rational selection of slurry/substrate, binder/substrate, and binder/polymer electrolyte combinations.

Interaction of hydrogen molecules with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons modified with Zr atoms: different modifications yield distinct properties

open access: yesResults in Surfaces and Interfaces
Ability of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), namely coronene (C24H12), circumcoronene (C54H18) and circumpyrene (C42H16) modified with Zr atoms to bind H2 molecules is investigated using density functional theory.

Particle‐Level ZrO2 Atomic Layer Deposition Enables Fast‐Cycling and Long‐Life Graphite Cathodes for Dual‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A spatial location of atomic layer deposition (ALD)‐derived ZrO2 coatings is demonstrated to be a critical design parameter for stabilizing graphite cathodes in DIBs. Direct particle‐level ALD (PALD) screening of representative metal oxides identified ZrO2 as the coating that provides the most favorable balance of high‐rate capability and interfacial ...

Phase Boundary Engineering of Co2P‐CoP Branched Nanoparticles Enhances Cobalt Oxidation for Oxygen Evolution Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Phase boundaries between Co2P and CoP are constructed through a controlled transformation of Co to Co2P‐CoP branched nanoparticles. The polycrystalline mixed‐phase Co2P‐CoP branches are enriched with phase boundaries that stabilize Co active sites for OER. This work highlights phase boundary engineering as a powerful approach to tailor active sites and
