Extensive mismatch between protected areas and biodiversity hotspots of Iranian Lepidoptera

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 17, Issue 6, Page 938-952, November 2024.
Species‐rich regions and areas with higher priority for conservation of Iranian Lepidoptera are mainly restricted to the major mountain ranges in the north and west. We investigated an extensive mismatch between the current network of the protected areas and no‐hunting areas, and the regions prioritized for Lepidoptera conservation within Iran ...

Species traits to guide moth conservation in anthropogenic regions: A multi‐species approach using distribution trends in Flanders (northern Belgium)

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 17, Issue 6, Page 1016-1032, November 2024.
By applying Multi‐Species Change Indices to over 1.8 million citizen scientist observations from 1980 to 2022, we assessed the distributional changes of macro‐moths in Flanders (northern Belgium)—a highly anthropogenic region in Northwest Europe—by linking temporal trends to 10 key ecological and life history traits.

Traffic intensity and vegetation management affect flower‐visiting insects and their response to resources in road verges

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 61, Issue 8, Page 1955-1967, August 2024.
Road verges can play a valuable role for the conservation of wild bees and butterflies, but there is a need to consider both traffic intensity and resource availability when implementing management strategies. To support wild bee and butterfly diversity, we recommend actions to enhance plant species richness and flower resource availability, and to ...

Adapting to change: Exploring the consequences of climate‐induced host plant shifts in two specialist Lepidoptera species

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2024.
Our study is the first to our knowledge exploring consequences for specialised low‐elevation insect herbivores facing novel, congeneric, high‐elevation plants. Importantly, our study highlights that considering altered biotic interactions, such as those between specialised insects and their host plants, is crucial to predict how species will respond to

We know very little about pollination in the Platanthera Rich (Orchidaceae: Orchidoideae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2024.
This review of Platanthera pollination ecology shows that there are a number of orchid species in the group without pollinator information. Considerable knowledge gaps were identified even for those species where pollinator information has been reported, and these gaps impact our ability to appropriately manage orchid and pollinator populations, which ...
