Phylogeny and reclassification of Limacodidae worldwide, with emphasis on the ontogeny of larval defenses (Lepidoptera: Zygaenoidea)

Insect Systematics and Diversity
Abstract Limacodidae (Zygaenoidea), a mostly pantropical family of 1,800+ species, is known for sluglike caterpillars with suckers below rather than typical prolegs. They typically have either venomous spines (nettles) or a smooth surface (gelatines) above.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Mahanta tanyae compared with other zygaenoid moths (Lepidoptera: Zygaenoidea)

Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology, 2019
Abstract The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Mahanta tanyae was sequenced and extensively compared with all seven additionally reported zygaenoid mitogenomes. The M. tanyae mitogenome is circular, double-stranded, and 15,323 bp long. Gene content, gene order, and orientation are all typical of Lepidoptera, despite the existence of gene ...

Studies on African zygaenoid moths (Lepidoptera: Zygaenoidea): adult morphology of Psycharium montanum (Somabrachyidae)

African Zoology, 2001
The morphology of the adult male of Psycharium montanum is described and illustrated to serve as a basis for subsequent taxonomic and systematic studies on African flannel moths and related taxa. P. montanum exhibits features showing closer affinity to  Limacodidae than to Megalopygidae.Key words: moths, morphology, Limacodidae, Megalopygidae, South ...

A phylogenetic framework of Palaearctic and Indomalayan Limacodidae (Lepidoptera, Zygaenoidea) based on sequence capture data

Systematic Entomology
Abstract The slug moth family Limacodidae is a cosmopolitan group of economic importance, but its higher level systematics remains poorly understood. Here, we present a robust, higher level phylogenetic framework for Palaearctic and Indomalayan members of the family using sequence capture data of 148 nuclear ...
