The complete mitochondrial genome of Ctenolepisma villosa (Insecta: Zygentoma, Lepismatidae)

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2019
In this study, the complete sequence of the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of Ctenolepisma villosa was obtained using next-generation sequencing approaches and de novo assembly. The molecule was found to be 15,488 bp in length.

Silverfish Lepisma saccharina Linnaeus (Insecta: Zygentoma: Lepismatidae) [PDF]

open access: yesEDIS, 2018
Silverfish is a common name used to refer to many species in the order Zygentoma. The Entomological Society of America designates the term silverfish as the official common name to only one species, however: Lepisma saccharina Linnaeus.

A new epigean species of the genus Anelpistina (Insecta: Zygentoma: Nicoletiidae) from Sierra de El Abra, Taninul, Mexico

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Taxonomy, 2015
Anelpistina taninuli sp. nov. (Insecta: Zygentoma: Nicoletiidae), a species from Taninul, Sierra de El Abra, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, is described. We also report the 16S rRNA sequence of this new species.

CTENOLEPISMA LONGICAUDATA (ZYGENTOMA: LEPISMATIDAE) NEW TO BRITAIN [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The silverfish Ctenolepisma longicaudata Escherich 1905 is reported for the first time in Britain, from Whitley Wood, Reading, Berkshire (VC22). This addition increases the number of British species of the order Zygentoma from two to three, all in the

A new species of Maindronia Bouvier, 1897 from Iran (Zygentoma: Maindroniidae)

open access: yesRecords of the Australian Museum, 2020
A new species of the genus Maindronia Bouvier is described from a single female specimen collected in Iran. It appears close to M. mascatensis Bouvier but displays a distinct chaetotaxy compared to that illustrated by earlier authors.

Prospects for Complete DNA Barcode Coverage of the New Zealand Insect Fauna. [PDF]

open access: yesJ R Soc N Z
The accurate identification of insects supports conservation, biosecurity and ecological monitoring. However, morphological identification is constrained by taxonomic complexity, undescribed diversity, and limited expertise. DNA barcoding can alleviate some of these challenges and complement morphological identification, if reference data are ...

Unexpected Evolutionary Divergence of Tachykinin-Positive Neurons Innervating the Central Complex in Hexapods. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Comp Neurol
The central complex is a group of midline‐spanning neuropils in the brain of insects with a key role in goal‐directed orientation and navigation. Immunolabeling in 25 species, ranging from bristletails to flies, shows that neurons containing peptides of the tachykinin family of neuropeptides are present in most species studied.

Paleopteran molecular clock: Time drift and recent acceleration. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Constant evolution rates, which form the foundation of the strict molecular clock model, do not apply in the case of Paleoptera, highlighting a notable bias in the molecular clock hypothesis. The current biodiversity may be the outcome of a relatively recent, exponential increase in base substitution rates.

Arthropod Assemblages in Desert Ecosystems of Alula County, Saudi Arabia. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
This study provides preliminary descriptions of arthropod communities in two desert habitats—arid thorn woodlands and wadis—across protected areas in AlUla County, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Pitfall trapping over a 6‐day period yielded more than 2000 specimens representing at least 189 morphospecies, with ants (Formicidae) and springtails ...

Insufficient Logging Intervals Impede Upper Soil Recovery in Temperate Beech Forests: Insights From Two Case-Studies in Poland. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
This study examined the effects of forest operations on soil microarthropod biodiversity and litter decomposition in temperate beech forests, comparing disturbed and undisturbed soils across different harvesting timelines. While litter decomposition remained unaffected, significant soil disturbances were found in areas impacted by machine passage, with
