Neural Assimilation and Accommodation in Trilinguals: An fMRI Study at 7 T

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 47, Issue 11, 01 August 2026.
Using brain activation and representational similarity analysis at 7 T‐MRI, this study demonstrated that the trilingual brain flexibly modulated neural assimilation and accommodation. While Chinese and English shared highly similar neural representations, Japanese engaged distinct patterns, highlighting script‐driven effects on multilingual neural ...

Impact of Infratemporal Fossa Clearance on Survival in Advanced Buccal Mucosa Cancers

open access: yesHead &Neck, Volume 48, Issue 8, Page 2135-2143, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Buccal mucosa cancers are the most prevalent oral cavity cancers in South Asia, often attributed to widespread tobacco use. The current NCCN guidelines generally advise against primary surgery for locally very advanced (cT4b) buccal cancers involving the masticatory space and infratemporal fossa (ITF).

Use of Free Flaps in the Reconstruction of the Ventral Skull Base: A Systematic Literature Review

open access: yesHead &Neck, Volume 48, Issue 8, Page 2261-2270, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Reconstruction of the ventral skull base represents a challenge in head and neck surgery. When local or regional flaps are insufficient, microvascular free flaps offer a reliable reconstructive option. Methods A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines to identify studies on ventral skull base ...

Computed Tomography Findings in Pathology‐Confirmed Rhino‐Orbital Mucormycosis During the COVID‐19 Era: A Retrospective Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Rhino‐orbital mucormycosis (ROM) emerged as a severe complication during the COVID‐19 era, particularly in immunocompromised patients. Computed tomography (CT) plays a critical role in early detection and assessment of disease extent.

Camouflage Protein‐Engineered Extracellular Vesicles Alleviate TMJ‐OA by Hijacking Caspase‐1 to Suppress Pyroptosis

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ‐OA) is highly prevalent with an insidious onset. Severe inflammation and significant degenerative changes are often associated with the condition, and current clinical treatments remain inadequate. In this study, we focus on pyroptosis and engineered the camouflage protein (GSDMD‐C) attached to the ...

The Impact of Food Properties on Jaw Movements in Rodents: A Comparison Between Myomorphous and Hystricomorphous Species

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 287, Issue 8, August 2026.
We investigated the masticatory movements of two of the three main cranial‐mandibular morphological groups in Rodents (two species each) using 3D X‐ray reconstruction. We found that both groups use different movements and modulate their chewing differently in response to different food items.
