Sexual Dimorphism as a Potential Driver of Trophic Specialisation in a Sedentary Synanthropic Bat Species

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
Female common serotine bats (Cnephaeus serotinus) are consistently larger than males in forearm length, wing area and mandibular dimensions related to bite force. Wing dimorphism reflects isometric size scaling rather than shape divergence, suggesting compensation for pregnancy‐related mass increases.

Camouflage Protein‐Engineered Extracellular Vesicles Alleviate TMJ‐OA by Hijacking Caspase‐1 to Suppress Pyroptosis

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ‐OA) is highly prevalent with an insidious onset. Severe inflammation and significant degenerative changes are often associated with the condition, and current clinical treatments remain inadequate. In this study, we focus on pyroptosis and engineered the camouflage protein (GSDMD‐C) attached to the ...

The Impact of Food Properties on Jaw Movements in Rodents: A Comparison Between Myomorphous and Hystricomorphous Species

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 287, Issue 8, August 2026.
We investigated the masticatory movements of two of the three main cranial‐mandibular morphological groups in Rodents (two species each) using 3D X‐ray reconstruction. We found that both groups use different movements and modulate their chewing differently in response to different food items.

Smile Asymmetry and Eyelid Closure Following Temporalis Muscle Transfer for Facial Reanimation: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 136, Issue 8, Page 3314-3324, August 2026.
This systematic review and meta‐analysis of 53 studies and 1354 patients evaluates the outcomes of temporalis muscle transfer in facial nerve paralysis. Our results show that temporalis muscle transfer can restore smile asymmetry, oral commissure movement, and eyelid closure—findings that are translated to clinician‐rated assessments.

Dual Pathways of Loneliness in the Marketplace: Emotional Attachment, Empowerment, and Evaluations of Brand Warmth and Brand Competence

open access: yesPsychology &Marketing, Volume 43, Issue 8, Page 1933-1950, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Loneliness shapes consumer behavior, yet whether it increases preference for warm or competent brands remains unresolved. We argue that this question cannot be answered without distinguishing who is perceived to be lonely. Individual loneliness, which is a person's subjective experience of social disconnection, activates agency‐restoration ...
