Heavy infestation seriously damaged the gut epithelium, and the viability of the host was estimated to be reduced.

The oldest Calopterygidae in the Eocene Baltic amber (Odonata: Zygoptera)
Zootaxa, 2009A larva of the damselfly family Calopterygidae is described from Eocene Baltic amber. It is the oldest record of this family partially filling the gap between previous records from the Oligocene and the Mesozoic inferred from molecular analyses for this family.

Ultrastructural observation on the rectal gills of Zygoptera larva.

Both outer and inner epicuticles of damselfly larvae (Zygoptera) are pierced by pores of about 200...250 A thickness. The pores are distributed at a distance of about 500...600 A apart. Their endings are noticed upto the lower portion of exocuticle.
