Abstract

A 2-week-old male, 900 g, born at 27 weeks gestational age is scheduled emergently for exploratory laparotomy for free air in the abdomen. Vital signs are BP = 50/30 mmHg, P = 185 bpm, T = 36.2°C. His hemoglobin is 13.0 g/dL. He is intubated with a 2.5 mm oral endotracheal tube. Ventilator settings are FiO2 = 0.5, RR = 30/min, PEEP = 3 cm H2O, PIP = 28 cm H2O.
