Abstract
Parathyroidectomy (Gk. para, beyond; Gk. thyeoeidēs, shield-shaped; and Gk. ektomē, excision) refers to the surgical removal of the parathyroid glands. Because of their close association with the thyroid glands, the thyroids are often removed during parathyroidectomy.
