Abstract
The reader will take advantage from this first reading becoming acquainted to the world, principles and vocabulary of quality. The history of quality, basic principles of total quality management and international standards, both generic and specific to the scientific research, are discussed to a depth encouraging further dissertation. A presentation of ISO 9000, good laboratory practice, ISO/IEC 17025 and a brief description of other quality management standards are included.
