Abstract
In this chapter we introduce the relational model, a collection of methods and techniques for organizing databases centered on the notion of a relation as the data structure. After we present the notion of a relation, we present other fundamental concepts such as candidate key, primary key and foreign key. Integrity rules such as the entity integrity rule and the referential integrity rule are presented. We conclude this chapter with a brief introduction to relational operations.
