Abstract
The cellular effects of purines and pyrimidines are mediated through an extended superfamily of purinoceptors, which include metabotropic P1 (adenosine) receptors, and P2 nucleotide receptors, further subdivided into ionotropic P2X receptors (ATP-gated cation channels) and metabotropic P2Y receptors (G protein-coupled). This chapter provides inādepth overview of molecular biology, biophysics, pharmacology, physiology, and distribution of purinoceptors.
