While entropy was introduced in the second half of the 19th century in the international vocabulary as a scientific term, in the 20th century it became common in colloquial use. Popular imagination has loaded “entropy” with almost every negative quality in the universe, in life and in society, with a dominant meaning of disorder and disorganization ...

Significant Improvement in Wear Resistance of CoCrFeNi High-Entropy Alloy via Boron Doping
CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) exhibits excellent mechanical properties but relatively poor wear resistance. In particular, when the load reaches a certain level and the deformation mechanism of the CoCrFeNi HEA changes, the formation of shear bands ...

AbstractWe ask the question whether entropy accumulates, in the sense that the operationally relevant total uncertainty about an n-partite system $$A = (A_1, \ldots A_n)$$ A = ( A 1 , … A n ) corresponds to the sum of the entropies of its parts $$A_i$$ A i .

High-Temperature Mechanical Behavior of Cobalt-Free FeMnCrNi(Al) High-Entropy Alloys
The high-temperature properties of new alloys need to be investigated to guide the hot working process. The temperature sensitivity of various microstructures of Fe45Mn15Cr15Ni25 and Fe35Mn15Cr15Ni25Al10 cobalt-free high-entropy alloys was investigated ...

The concept of entropy constitutes, together with energy, a cornerstone of contemporary physics and related areas. It was originally introduced by Clausius in 1865 along abstract lines focusing on thermodynamical irreversibility of macroscopic physical processes. In the next decade, Boltzmann made the genius connection—further developed by Gibbs—of the

I study the physical nature of traces. Surprisingly, (i) systems separation with (ii) temperature differences and (iii) long thermalization times are sufficient conditions to produce macroscopic traces. Traces of the past are ubiquitous because these conditions are largely satisfied in our universe.

Polarity and surface area are two important factors in determining electrochemical performance and are here studied systematically using carbon fiber cloths (CFCs) as electrodes. The CFC polarity is enhanced by plasma treatment that creates polar groups,
